Canterbury Girls Prep For First State Title Game

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – The Canterbury girls soccer team will get a chance to win the program’s first state title this Saturday when the Cavaliers travel to Indianapolis to face Evansville Mater Dei in the 1A state championship game.
The Cavs (13-6-1) beat Wheeler 2-0 and West Lafayette 1-0 in semistate action this past Saturday. Alexa Habig was in goal for the Cavaliers and Victoria Yanez scored the lone goal against West Lafaytte as heroes of the weekend.
Canterbury will face a Mater Dei team who comes in 17-4-2. Canterbury was ranked fifth in the final 1A state poll of the regular season while Evansville Mater Dei was ranked fourth.
The Cavaliers are coached by Jennie Crandal.
The 1A state title match is set for approxiametely 12:30 p.m. Saturday at IUPUI’s Carroll Stadium.
