INDIANAPOLIS – In the third of 11 head-to-head meetings between the two teams this season, the Indy Fuel were defeated by the Fort Wayne Komets on Sunday at the Fairgrounds Coliseum by a 4-0 final score. With the loss, the Fuel fell to 1-3-1-1 overall this season and with four points, remain locked in a four-way tie for third place in the ECHL’s North Division standings.
The Komets grabbed an early lead at 4:37 of the first period, as Matthew Pistilli scored his fourth of the season to make it 1-0 Fort Wayne. Then, at 14:49, Nathan Condon tapped a back-door one-timer through Indy goaltender Cody Reichard to make it 2-0, before a Condon breakaway tally at 19:18 pushed the Komets’ lead to 3-0 through one period of play.
Fort Wayne extended their advantage to 4-0 in the second period with the frame’s lone goal, a Mitchell Heard wrister that glanced off multiple bodies following a left-circle faceoff win for the Komets at 1:44. Despite 12 third period Fort Wayne shots, the final frame slid by scoreless and the Komets skated away with a 4-0 victory.
Reichard stopped a single-game season high 33 pucks in defeat while Fort Wayne goaltender Francois Tremblay earned a 21-save shutout in his first career ECHL appearance.
