“Non-traditional” grocery opens for business

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE)  On its web site, Fresh Thyme Farmers Market says its stores don’t follow traditional grocery store design and shoppers got the chance to experience what that means on Thursday first hand.

The food store, located on Coldwater Road in the former Borders Books location across from Glenbrook Square Mall, opened at 7 am. The first 250 shoppers received a reusable shopping bag filled with $50 worth of groceries.

Fresh Thyme Farmers Market puts an emphasis on fresh and healthy food, but it’s aisles aren’t just limited to stocking fruits and vegetables.  The stores also sell meat, seafood, bakery items, ready to eat meals, natural and organic bulk foods, coffee, vitamins, supplements and body care items and other items including beer and wine.

Fresh Thyme Farmers Market also operates stores in Indianapolis and Lafayette.  It also has stores in Illinois and Ohio with plans to expand to Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri and Wisconsin.
