FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Fort Wayne has more than 80 miles of trails with the hope to add even more.
More than 700 people participated in the Trail Blazer fundraiser Sunday afternoon. The 5K and 10K run and walk raised money for the Paving the Way campaign.
Trail officials said around 40 percent of the population doesn’t drive, so the trails provide equal opportunities to everyone.
“The trails give everyone that free access to get to school, to get to work, to get to the places that they need to go and at the same time, they improve the quality of life. So, people of any age, any ability level, any socioeconomic level, they can all benefit from getting out,” Lori Rose with Fort Wayne Trails said.
Organizers hope to connect more than 100 miles of trails over the next five years.
