Wife charged with not reporting husband’s death out of jail

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – The woman charged with not reporting her husband’s death while still collecting his benefits is out of jail.

According to Tippecanoe County court records, Ila Solomon posted a $5,000 surety bond Tuesday.

Solomon faces nine criminal charges including failure to report a dead body, welfare fraud and theft after investigators say she kept her husband’s body in their house for nine months. They accuse her of collecting Gerald “Scooter” Gavan’s VA and Social Security benefits.

Her trial date is set for Jan. 27, 2015.
