FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – For the first time since 1991 three schools will share the SAC conference championship with Wayne, Snider, and Bishop Luers all getting a piece of the Victory Bell.
Wayne defeated Snider 41-32 in The Highlight Zone “Game of the Week” while Luers topped Dwenger in the battle of the Bishops 41-22 as the Generals, Panthers, and Knights all finished 6-1 in league play. Concordia stepped out of conference, as the Cadets lost to 3A no. 12 Indianapolis Brebeuf 36-22, while North Side pummeled Northrop 51-13 at Chambers Field.
In the NHC 6A no. 5 Carroll finished the regular season with a perfect 9-0 record, winning the conference championship outright in their final year before moving to the SAC. Homestead’s Jack Dugan kicked a game-winning field goal as time expired to defeated New Haven 27-25, Columbia City’s Ashten Barnes blocked a PAT in overtime as the Eagles defeated Norwell 35-34, and Bellmont upset 4A no. 9 East Noble 24-21.
In ACAC play Leo finished undefeated in conference play on the edge of their exit, as the Lions will join the newly forming Northeast Eight next year. The Lions defeated Bluffton 42-0 on Friday night behind 121 yards rushing from Tyler Hensinger to clinch their sixth consecutive ACAC title outright. In other ACAC action South Adams fell to Southern Wells 21-14, Woodlan rallied to defeat Adams Central 33-32, and Heritage had no problem with Jay County in a 42-6 victory in Monroeville.
In NECC action Garrett toppled Central Noble 40-7, Churubusco bested Fairfield 35-20 behind 160 yards rushing and two touchdowns from Landon Harris, West Noble defeated Prairie Heights 33-14, Lakeland beat Fremont 26-12, and 2A no. 10 Eastside won big against Angola 53-7.
Meanwhile, Huntington North won its final game in the NCC over Lafayette Jeff 31-15 as the Vikings will leave for the Northeast Eight after this school year.
