The school gathered for an assembly Thursday October 16, 2014.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Cedar Canyon Elementary School raised $5,476 for the American Cancer Society this week in support of “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.”

This is the second year Cedar Canyon has raised money for this cause. Last year the school raised and donated $3,222. This year was special for the school, one of the teachers, Linda Vernasco, is battling breast cancer. She has undergone 28 radiation treatments and has five more to go.

Students raised the funds to dress up for one of the five themed days. Students also donated loose change to the jar of a staff member they wanted to see dunked at the end of the week. The jar for Nurse Betsy came in third raising around $515.  Mr. Dodane’s jar was second with just over $545 and Mr. Berdelman ran away with the competition with just over $1,331 raised throughout the week.
