Leaf collection begins Monday

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE)  City crews will begin collecting leaves on Monday, October 20. Residents can rake their leaves to the curb or can bag their leaves and schedule a pick-up.

Call 311 to schedule a pick-up. The bags, which must be biodegradable, will be collected within two business days. Officials say it’s a growing trend that saw a 60% increase in participation last year.

“Falling leaves are weather dependent and last year we saw more than 2,200 residents choose to bag their leaves and have them picked up at the curb,” said Bob Kennedy, Director of the Division of Public Works.  “It’s a good way to match leaf collection dates up with your individual schedule.”

Pick-up of loose leaves that have been raked and placed in piles at the curb begins Monday in northern neighborhoods.  Visit cityoffortwayne.org/leaves or call 427-2603 to get specific information about which neighborhoods crews will visit each day.

The Street Department will visit each of the more than 400 Fort Wayne neighborhoods twice between Monday and December 5.
