Carroll Grad Tranquill To See More Time After Collinsworth Injury

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WANE) – Notre Dame fans can expect a steady dose of Carroll graduate Drue Tranquill in the near future, as fellow safety Austin Collinsworth will miss 4-6 weeks with a shoulder injury head coach Brian Kelly announced on Wednesday.
Kelly added that Collinsworth will not need surgery.
Notre Dame’s depth at the safety position has taken hits both via injury and suspension (Eilar Hardy) this season, and Tranquill is joined by only Elijah Shumate, Max Redfield, and Mathias Farley as the team’s only healthy options at the position.
A true freshman, Tranquill has been a reliable part of the defense so far this season. Playing in a back-up role, Tranquill has tallied 15 tackles this season. He has also played a key role on special teams, blocking a punt in Notre Dame’s win over Stanford.
Tranquill and the Irish play at Florida State on Saturday.
