Coroner deems manner of July death ‘undetermined’

Police on the scene after a man was found injured in the middle of the street.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Police initially investigated his death as a possible hit and run but a ruling by the Allen County Coroner has declared the July death of a 46-year-old Fort Wayne man undetermined.

Conrad S. Symonds was found critically injured lying in the middle of the road in the 3900 block of Shannon Drive at about 5:45 a.m. on July 16. He was found near Neighbor Drive and a pool of blood was found closer to Goodfellow Drive, which was several hundred feet away. A few more drops of blood were found about thirty feet further west. Symonds died two days later.

The coroner previously found that he died from blunt force trauma but did not declare the manner of death. There are five legal manners of death in Indiana: homicide, suicide, accidental, natural, or – if there is not enough evidence on the manner of death – undetermined. On October 14, the Allen County Coroner ruled his death to be undetermined.
