VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – Police said a husband and wife are dead after a domestic disturbance in eastern Vigo County Sunday morning.
According to the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office, a woman called 911 around 1:20 a.m. saying that her husband was threatening to kill her. Dispatchers said the call ended abruptly, but the woman later called back. During that call, dispatchers heard gunshots in the background.
When officers arrived at the home, located at 4025 N. Creal Street, they found a woman dead inside the home.
A child and an elderly couple were also inside the home. They were quickly evacuated for their safety.
Officers learned the male suspect went into the basement of the home with multiple rounds of ammunition. The Terre Haute Police Department’s Special Response Team (SRT) was then called to the scene.
Using a remote camera, SRT found the suspect in the basement unresponsive. The team entered the home and crews pronounced him dead at the scene.
The man and woman have not yet been identified, pending an autopsy. The couple’s official cause of death will also be determined following the autopsy, which is scheduled for Monday.
