TOTW: Bishop Luers Boys Tennis

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – For the first time since 1968 the Bishop Luers boys tennis team has earned an SAC championship, and for that the Knights have been selected as the FWO Team of the Week.

Luers clinched the SAC championship with at 3-2 win over Bishop Dwenger last Thursday that went down to the final match at no. 2 doubles. The Knights’ combo of Andy Mauch and Matt Palmer won 4-6, 7-6, 6-3 to clinch the victory and SAC crown for the Knights. Ethan Brown also won at no. 3 singles while Erik Woehnker and Johnny Woehnker won 6-0, 6-1 at no. 1 doubles.

Luers then went on to win the eight-team East Noble Invitational of the weekend. No. 1 singles player Isaiah Klotz of Luers won the overall individual title while the Woehnker brothers won the overall doubles title.

The Knights also topped Fremont Monday night in a road match to boot.
