FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) The Fort Wayne Fire Department held a ceremony Tuesday afternoon as a new truck was put into service at Station 15. It replaces the oldest one in the department’s fleet.
“We had what is called the wetting down ceremony. Tradition in the fire service is that anytime a new apparatus is put in service, we wet it down, we bless it to ward off any evil spirits, and then we push it in, because back in the day when they had horses, they had to hand push all the apparatus back in,” explained Chief Eric Lahey.
The new truck cost a little more than $900,000.
