FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Around 150 women gathered at the Renaissance Pointe YMCA Saturday evening for the third annual women’s conference. The event entitled “Wait for your Blessing” was hosted by STAR Network, a non-profit organization that provides programs, support services, and scholarships to at-risk women. STAR stands for: “Striving Together Achieving Results”, and the event was geared toward helping women who’ve gone through any crisis in their lives such as domestic violence, depression, and addiction.
“So many women go through abuse, and they hide it,” STAR Network founder, Neco Beasley said. Beasley said she created the organization after going through a nasty divorce that left her in depression. When she was able to overcome her depression, she vowed to devote her life to helping other women. Women who attended Saturday were domestic violence survivors, recovering addicts, ex-offenders, divorcees, and people who wanted to support the cause. Women were able to gain resources and encouragement from other women who’ve been in similar positions. The day included a clothes give away and breakout sessions dealing with love, business, and success.
“They don’t know hope, so we at Star Network have seen a lot of women who have come to love themselves and to go on and get education,” Hafeezah, a STAR Network graduate, said.
Five scholarships were also given out to women who want to go back to school and finish a degree.
