FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Plans for a bridge that connects the IPFW campus and the Ivy Tech campus has been approved, according to our partners at the News-Sentinel. IPFW spokesperson John Kaufeld said construction on the bridge is expected to begin in early 2016.
Recently the Indiana Department of Transportation approved the construction of a 3,667-foot bridge across Indiana 930 (Coliseum Boulevard) which will link IPFW and the Coliseum campus for Ivy tech.
There is currently a route on the Rivergreenway which goes under Coliseum Boulevard, however when the river floods the path is cut off. Kaufeld told the News-Sentinel this bridge will provide an alternative route for the Rivergreenway and allow student to cross safely.
The Federal Highway Administration recently passed an environmental-impact review for the bridge. The project is still in its design phase but estimates from INDOT in 2009 quoted the bridge to cost $4.5 million. Both Ivy Tech and IPFW are expected to share the expenses.
