FORT WAYNE, IN. (WANE) – Fans looking for a offensive showcase may want to head to Luersfield on Friday night where Wayne and Bishop Luers will meet in the NewsChannel 15 Highlight Zone Game of the Week.
The Generals enter with a perfect 4-0 record thanks to their explosive offense which is averaging 50 points per game, including a 60-point showing against Concordia in the team’s SAC opener. Senior quarterback Keion Powers leads an offense loaded with perimeter weapons both in the ground game and through the air. The Generals defense, often overlooked, has come up with crucial stops twice this season late in games, including a game-winning stop on a two-point conversion in a win over North Side last Friday.
Bishop Luers meanwhile lights teams up through the air thanks to the exploits of junior quarterback Noah Wezensky and junior wide receiver Austin Mack. The two form arguably the most dangerous deep threat in the area and when you add in wideout Tyrell Johnson, the Knights pose all kinds of problems to opposing secondaries. The Luers offense hasn’t been quite as potent as the Generals, putting up 38 points per game, but the defense is surrendering less than 15 points per game.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. from Luersfield on Friday. NewsChannel 15 will be live at the stadium with a pre-game report at 6.
