Former Saint Francis College president dies

Presidents003-Sister JoEllenFORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE)   A woman who dedicated much of her life to higher education at University of Saint Francis died Tuesday. According to the University of Saint Francis, Sister JoEllen Scheetz, died at Our Lady of Angles convent in Mishawaka at the age of 88.

She served as president from 1970- 1993 when the university was known as Saint Francis College. She also served as academic dean for one year. Before that she taught in the English Department at the college.

The Eucharistic funeral liturgy will be held on Friday, September 19 at 11 a.m. at St. Francis Convent Chapel, 1515 W. Dragoon Trail, Mishawaka. A memorial Mass will be held Tuesday September 30 at 4:30 p.m. in USF Chapel in Trinity Hall in Fort Wayne.

Sister JoEllen received her Bachelor of Arts in Education from St. Francis College in 1956, a master of Arts in English from the University of Notre Dame in 1964 and a doctorate in Educational Administration for the University of Michigan in 1970.
