WATERLOO, Ind. (WANE) Amazing Fall Fun in Waterloo got national attention last year with its corn maze that was intricately designed as Colts Quarterback Andrew Luck.
It may not look like anything special from the ground, but from the air, you’ll find a familiar face this year engraved in the field.
This year, you’ll get a kick out of this, it’s Indianapolis Colts punter Pat McAfee.
“We had Pat McAfee suggested to us, and we thought about it,” Amazing Fall Fun owner Larry Smith said. It made sense. He has a large following on social media, and it’s been so easy working with the Colts on these ideas that we went for it.”
Making a corn maze this large and meticulous takes a lot of effort and hard work but not quite as much time as you may think
“It takes about 8 hours,” Smith said. “We start in the morning and in about 8 or 9 hours, we’re done.”
The process starts in February. Larry and his team get the design plans together and in spring, they plant the field. Dividing the field into quadrants, the corn maze is cut out when the plants are about 6 inches tall.
“We plot on the field, count rows and literally draw out the design on the field,` Smith said.
While the corn maze is the main attraction, there’s a lot of family fun to be had here.
“This year we added the barrel-rollers, which are unique themselves. We also added tractor-tire-tower. We also have a new game we’re playing out in the corn maze if people want to try that out as well. We’re always working to grow and improve.”
