‘Turn around, don’t drown’

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – With the heavy rains, watch out for flooded roads. There is no way to know how deep flood waters may be. It takes just six inches of water to reach the bottoms of most car doors and one foot of water to float most vehicles.

“Turn around, don’t down” is a NOAA National Weather Service campaign designed to warn people of the dangers of walking or driving through flooded areas. According to NOAA, more deaths occur each year due to flooding than from any other severe weather related events. Play it safe and if you see an area covered with water, “turn around, don’t drown.”
