FORT WAYNE, IN. (WANE) – With a 5-0 record and a top 15 ranking in the state 2A poll, there’s no better time to crown the Carroll girls soccer team as the FWO Team of the Week.
Under head coach Rick Smith, the Chargers offense has been a juggernaut, scoring 25 goals in the opening five matches of the season. What’s made Carroll particularly potent is the division of labor: nine different players have found the back of of the net and Smith says his relatively young team is intent on sharing the ball as much as possible.
This team definitely has plenty of motivation. As an inexperienced group with low expectations in 2013, the Chargers made a run all the way to regionals before ultimately falling to NHC rival Homestead. This year’s team won’t manage to sneak up on as many people, but with the offensive talent on the roster, that shouldn’t be a problem.
Carroll begins a busy week in which they play five matches, three will be at home.
