FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Police have arrested two men in connection with a shooting on Eby Avenue Monday night that left another man dead.
An autopsy conducted Tuesday has positively identified the victim as John Damarcus Holman, 26, of Fort Wayne. He died of gunshot wounds and his death has been ruled the 11th homicide in Allen County in 2014.
Police received multiple 911 calls after residents in the 2100 block of Eby Avenue heard multiple gunshots around 10:15 p.m.
Officers arrived and found Holman in the passenger seat of a van and it appeared he had been shot several times. Holman was taken to a hospital in critical condition. He was later pronounced dead by hospital staff.
Investigators placed numbered placards next to several dozen shell casings in the street. At least 45 casings were marked around the van and several feet away.
Police said they were investigating the possibility of multiple shooters due to several different types of casings being located in the street. It’s unclear if Holman fired any weapons.
On Tuesday morning, Fort Wayne police and officers with the ATF and FBi served a warrant at a home in the 1400 block of Maumee Avenue. Five men were taken into custody for questioning. Three were released, however the other two are now facing charges. Charles Antwon Benson, 24, of Fort Wayne faces felony charges of murder and possession of a firearm. Marcus Jovan Lindsey, 25, also of Fort Wayne faces a felony charge of assisting a criminal.
Chambers said several witnesses described vehicles leaving the area shortly after the shooting. He said it was unclear if any of the vehicles were involved.
One home was hit by a bullet after a woman reported a broken window. She was not hurt.
A vehicle next to the van that was hit with multiple bullets was also damaged.
