Inside The Zone – 9/8 – Week Four

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – An unpredictable NHC takes center stage this week as 6A no. 10 Carroll will travel to 4A no. 6 New Haven in a battle of 3-0 teams.
The News-Sentinel sports writer Justin Kenny and WANE sports director Glenn Marini discuss the Chargers/Bulldogs series in which New Haven has won three of the last four matchups – including a 41-35 win last season at Dean Gorsuch Field. This season New Haven heads into the game coming off a 20-13 win at DeKalb, while Carroll used a big fourth quarter last week to edge Norwell 22-19.
Another big game on the horizon will be Leo (2-1) at Bishop Luers (2-1). The Lions beat the Knights 34-7 last year, but Luers has proven it is much improved in 2014, as noted by last Friday’s 43-0 win over South Side. Leo comes into the contest ranked 18th in 4A while Luers is 13th in 3A.
Wayne Stadium will also host one of the top games this week as 5A no. 13 North Side travels to 4A no. 6 Wayne. The Generals are putting up over 55 points a game this season – fourth-best in the state. North Side is 1-2, but that includes a 22-21 loss to 4A no. 4 Bishop Dwenger last week.
5A no. 1 Snider won’t play until Saturday this week, but the Panthers will host one of the most anticipated games in the state when 6A no. 4 Penn comes to Spuller Stadium. The Panthers lost to Penn 38-0 last fall, but are 3-0 so far this season while averaging 39 points a game offensively while yielding just nine a night.
Other games to keep an eye on: Lakeland at Garrett, Norwell at Bellmont, DeKalb at East Noble, and South Adams at Heritage.
