WARSAW, Ind. (WANE) A dog who is singlehandedly responsible for saving the life of two people is retiring. After eight years of service, the Warsaw Police Department announced the official retirement of K-9 Officer Buddy.
Officer Buddy joined the Warsaw Police Department in June of 2006 after the department received a grant from the K21 Foundation. Buddy is a dual-purpose pure bred Belgian Malinois, was born in the Netherlands on April 11, 2004.
The Warsaw Police Department said Buddy was involved in hundreds of narcotic and criminal arrests. In 2009, Buddy and his partner, Lieutenant Joel Beam, finished 1st place in the patrol division category and second place in the obedience category.
Buddy will remain at home with Beam and his family for his retirement. There are still two K-9s who work with the Warsaw Police Department.
