VAN WERT, Ohio (WANE) – A grand jury indicted the former Van Wert Dog Warden on four felony counts of animal cruelty and neglect on Friday.

According to Paulding County Prosecutor Joe Burkhardt, who was appointed as a special prosecutor by Van Wert County Judge Steele, no trial date has been set yet for Richard Strunkenberg.

Burkhardt said Strunkenberg will be arraigned, or brought before the court to hear the charges against him, on Wednesday.

Strunkenberg was removed from his position as dog warden in July after county officials found unacceptable conditions at the animal shelter.

The County Commissioners plan to have the sheriff’s department take over the dog warden position at the beginning of 2015. A deputy would then permanently act as the dog warden.
