TOTW: DeKalb Barons Football

WATERLOO, Ind. (WANE) – With a 26-20 win over county rival Garrett this past Friday night the DeKalb football team is off to a 2-0 start for the first time since 2003, a great reason to name the Barons the FWO Team of the Week.
This season is already a far cry from what Barons fans are used to, as DeKalb went 4-46 overall from 2009-2013. That includes three winless seasons in DeKalb’s last four campaigns.
First-year head coach Pete Kempf has turned the Barons into an opportunistic team, as the DeKalb scored three touchdowns in the final quarter to defeat Garrett. DeKalb also forced eight turnovers (six fumbles, two interceptions) against the Railroaders.
In week one the Barons also scored three touchdowns in the fourth quarter to win 26-7 at Angola. That victory snapped a 13-game losing streak by DeKalb.
This week DeKalb opens NHC play at home when the Barons host New Haven. provides commenting on many stories to allow for constructive discussion.
