FORT WAYNE, IN. (WANE) – Win and they’re in – that’s the reality now facing the TinCaps after a Sunday night doubleheader sweep of Bowling Green. With the East Division race for the final wild card spot air tight, Fort Wayne has moved itself into pole position with 3-1 and 2-1 wins.
Kyle Lloyd was sharp on the mound in game one for Fort Wayne, surrendering just one run while striking out eight batters in four innings of work. The fourth inning was the difference for the TinCaps with all three of their runs coming by way of Ferenado Perez bat. With the bases full, Perez ripped a three-run double to put Fort Wayne in front for good.
In game two it was the TinCaps striking first in the second inning. Back-to-back RBI singles from Nick Schulz and Henry Charles gave Fort Wayne a lead it wouldn’t relinquish.
Entering the final day of the regular season the TinCaps are now in control of their playoff destiny. A win at Bowling Green sends Fort Wayne to a sixth straight postseason berth, while a loss opens the possibility of another team leap frogging them.
