Reported shooting, standoff ends with surrender

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A man has been arrested after reportedly firing shots at a car and then barricading himself inside a home earlyGet Shortlink Wednesday morning.

According to the release from the Fort Wayne Police Department, they got a call about shots fired in the 2900 block of Lillie Street just after 8 a.m. When police arrived, they were told that a man had fired shots at a car and then left the scene in a grey car.

Officers saw the car leaving the area and, after losing sight of it for a short time, found it at a home in the 7600 block of Verona Drive.

The suspect, who police had identified as 48-year-old Michael M. Underwood, spoke with a relative over the phone and initially refused to come out. Police were able to confirm that he was in the house alone as officers with the Fort Wayne Police Departments Emergency Services Team and Crisis Response Team arrived at the scene.

A short time later, Underwood came out of the house and surrendered to police. The investigation is ongoing and criminal charges are pending.
