FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE)- A woman is dead after a three-vehicle collision in the 5600 block of St. Joe Road Wednesday evening.

Witnesses at the scene told police that a black southbound car made an abrupt left turn around 5:05 p.m., crossing the northbound lanes and colliding with oncoming traffic. Police said a northbound white pickup -in an attempt to avoid a collision- swerved into a northbound tan car, and the tan car T-boned the black car.

Jami Elizabeth Beale, 25, was driving the black car and was initially declared to be in serious condition. She died just after 7:30 p.m. that evening at the hospital. According to the Allen County Coroner she died of blunt force trauma.

The drivers of the other vehicles were not seriously hurt, though the driver of the tan car complained of pain and was taken to a local hospital in good condition. There were no passengers in any of the vehicles.

Police said it is unclear whether any mitigating circumstances contributed to the accident. Beale’s death is the 18th traffic fatality for Allen County in 2014.
