NECC And Others Week 1 Recap

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Churubusco’s Chance Gallmeier set a school record for receiving yards as Churubusco topped Lakeland 33-19 to headline NECC play in week one.

Gallmeier caught three passes for 164 yards and three touchdowns for Churubusco. Adrian Springer added an 82-yard punt return for a score while teammate Devin Peters ran 15 times for 158 yards, and one touchdown.

Lakeland, who split the conference title in 2013 with Fairfield, scored first in the loss.  On the third play of the game, quarterback Dominic Christian connected with Karlan Troyer, who did most of the work with his legs on the 80-yard score.

Meanwhile, Garrett’s return to the NECC went well as the Railroaders topped Prairie Heights 39-7 at Memorial Field.

Fairfield’s season began with a 33-7 loss at the hands of Mishawaka Marian.

Woodlan topped Eastside, 57-33.  Eastside’s Jesse Eck had an 87-yard kick return in the third quarter in Friday’s loss.

Angola fell to DeKalb, 26-7.  The Barons win snapped the school’s 13-game losing streak that dated back to the last part of the 2012 season.

West Noble started the season with a 45-14 win over county rival Central Noble.

Fremont’s game was postponed with Blackford.  The game will  take place Saturday.

In the North Central Conference, Huntington North fell on the road at Homestead, 49-6.  Brady Hill scored the Vikings lone touchdown.

In the Three Rivers Conference, Whitko fell 34-12 to Wawasee.  The Wildcats shared the 2013 conference crown with Rochester.

Manchester started the year with a 27-13 win over Mississinewa, while Northfield edged out Bluffton, 29-27.
