FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The IPFW men’s soccer season-opening exhibition began with a 40 minute weather delay, but ended with a Mastodon shutout over the Indiana Tech Warriors, 3-0, on Tuesday evening at Hefner Soccer Complex.

In the 23rd minute, sophomore Stephen Danielian opened the Mastodons’ scoring after heading a deflected ball in the bottom left corner of the net. Moments earlier, junior Corey Tom barely missed a free kick attempt from 15 yards out, slamming the ball into the upper right of the crossbar, causing the deflection to Danielian.

The Mastodons would take a two goal lead heading into the half following a goal from Akis Lyrintzis in the 42nd minute. Lyrintzis placed the ball to the bottom right of the goal, after receiving the dish from Drake Bowers on the right side.

Austin West would put the game out of reach for the Warriors in the 60th minute after winning a battle for the ball about 30 yards out, creating a one-on-one opportunity. West beat the diving goalkeeper to the upper right corner.

IPFW started strong, out-shooting Indiana Tech 12-5 in the first half, while the ‘Dons also had the upper hand in corner kicks, 3-1, in the first 45 minutes. For the game, IPFW held a 19-10 advantage in shots and a 7-1 upper-hand in corner kicks.
