TinCaps offer tickets for blood donations

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) The Fort Wayne TinCaps are partnering with the American Red Cross to boost blood supply by hosting a special blood drive at Parkview Field. The blood drive will be held from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the Lincoln Financial Event Center. Anyone who donates blood will receive a ticket to an upcoming TinCaps game and an American Red Cross T-shirt.

“We are thrilled to be teaming up with the TinCaps for this special blood drive,” CEO of American Red Cross, Indiana-Ohio Blood Services Region, Sharyn Whitman said. “During a summer that has been especially difficult for blood collections, the TinCaps are coming through for the community once again.”

Donations increased 7.5%, or 11,800 donations through July. Despite the increase, hospitals are using donations quickly and are in need  of donors with types O negative, B negative and A negative blood.

People can donate by making an appointment at redcrossblood.org or by calling 1-800- RED CROSS. Appointments are recommended but walk-ins are also welcome. In order to donate a person must be 17-years-old, weighing at least 110 pounds and in good health.
