Meet the man behind the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

(WANE) A man who was diagnosed with the more commonly known Lou Gehrig’s Disease, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) started a challenge that has now gone viral. The ALS Ice Bucket challenge has been completed by famous faces from Jimmy Fallon to Justin Timberlake. Even Indianapolis Colts are involved. For every video the Colts receive using the hashtag ‘ColtsIBC’ the company will donate $1 to ALS research.

ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord, according to the ALS Association’s website. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to their death.
