SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WANE) According to reports from Fox Sports and Yahoo Sports, Notre Dame will sit four players during an internal investigation of academic fraud.
The four players were identified by Fox Sports are cornerback KeiVarae Russell, wide receiver DaVaris Daniels, defensive end Ishaq Williams and linebacker Kendall Moore. Daniels is the team’s leading returning receiver after catching 49 passes for 745 yards and seven touchdowns in 2013. Russell and Williams were both penciled in as starters for Notre Dame this season as well.
Daniels was just readmitted to Notre Dame this summer after being suspended for the spring semester for an academic issue.
This news comes just one year after Notre Dame dismissed quarterback Everett Golson for academic violations. Golson was allowed to re-enroll at the University and was recently named the week one starter. These most recent allegations have no connection to Golson, but it is unknown at this time if the four players in question will be allowed to return to the school in the future.
The Irish enter the fall ranked 17th in the Coaches’ Preseason Poll and open the regular season August 30th at home against unranked Rice.
