ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) – One man died and another was injured after a crash early Friday morning.
Emergency personnel were dispatched shortly before 3:20 a.m. to U.S. 33 and HIldebrand Road in far northwestern Allen County.
Police said a car and conversion van collided after the van, which was towing a trailer, went off the road. Police said the driver of the van overcorrected the vehicle back onto the road and crossed the center line.
Allen County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Adam Griffith said the car swerved to miss the van, but the van made impact with the car on the driver’s side.
The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as Matthew A. Kever, 30, of Fort Wayne and an autopsy conducted Friday morning determined he died of blunt force trauma. Police said Kever was wearing his seat belt.
The driver of the van is in fair condition at a hospital. His identity has not been release, although Griffith said he is from South Carolina.
Both vehicles and the trailer came to rest in a bean field. The trailer detached from the van after impact and landed about 15 feet behind the van.
The crash is under investigation.
