Pickleball competition at SportONE Fieldhouse this weekend

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE)  The regional championship of a game that combines tennis, badminton, ping pong, and wiffle ball is in Fort Wayne this weekend. The SportONE Parkview Fieldhouse is hosting the 2014 USAPA Great Lakes Regional Pickleball Championships.

There are about 100,000 to 150,000 pickleball players nationwide, according to event organizers.

Pickleball competitors from the Midwest and Southeast regions of the United States will compete for three days in a round-robin, age bracket tournament. The August 15- 17 tournament is expected to bring 200 people to the Summit City.

The Fort Wayne Pickleball Association holds local competitions and clinics at Lions Park and other venues around the city. There are about 100,000 to 150,000 pickleball players nationwide, according to event organizers.
