Fort Wayne, IN– The Komets announced the addition of two rookies to the 2014-15 preseason roster Thursday. Defenseman Ian Barteaux and forward Eric Faille have agreed to terms and will be in the lineup when training camp opens Oct. 5 at the Memorial Coliseum.
Barteaux (BAR-toe), 26, completed five seasons of collegiate play last season with the University of Alberta (CWUAA). The Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta native capped his five-year college career winning the CIS National Championship before making his pro debut skating four games with Bakersfield in the ECHL. “Komet coach and director of player personnel Gary Graham worked very hard this summer recruiting Barteaux and Faille,” Komet general manager David Franke said. “Gary’s persistence paid off with their signings. Barteaux will give us not only solid defense but will contribute offensively to our attack. He had a very good junior and college career. He also plays an aggressive physical game.”
In 2008-09 Barteaux finished his fifth season in juniors leading the Kootenay Ice (WHL) defensemen with 39 points and 153 penalty minutes and was named runner-up for the WHL’s Humanitarian of the Year Award. In 2009-10 he made his college debut with the Golden Bears and was named to the CIS All-Tournament Team. In 2010-11 Barteaux finished second among Alberta defensemen with five goals and 14 points. The defenseman led all Canada West teams with +22 in conference play in 2012-13 prior to capturing the University Cup.
Faille (FIE-yay), 25, will be making his pro debut with Fort Wayne after serving four seasons at the University of Moncton (AUS). “Faille had a very successful college career to go along with a solid four years of juniors. He will be looked upon to provide offense and solid two-way play,” Franke said. “He is a very talented player and will be given every chance to be a major contributor to the team.”
Faille completed his collegiate career last season leading Moncton for the second straight year in assists (24) and points (39) and was named to the CIS (AUS) Second All-Star Team for the second straight season. In 2009-10 the Lachine, Quebec native finished his fourth year of juniors at Acadie-Bathurst leading the Titans with 46 assists and 77 points prior to his college debut in 2010-11.
