FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Powers Hamburgers in downtown Fort Wayne is making a historic move. For the first time since it opened in 1940, you can use a credit or debit card to pay for your meal.

Workers said most of the customers seem pretty happy about the change that took place in July.

“Some people only come in with a certain amount of money. They’re like, oh, we can use a card? We say, yep, you can use a card so they spend a little bit more and they’re a little happier,” said Power Hamburgers’ Belinda Romine.

Credit card purchases at Powers Hamburgers will have to be $5 or more.

This is the second iconic restaurant in downtown Fort Wayne to make the credit card move this year. In February, Coney Island started accepting plastic.
