FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) — An Indianapolis cardiologist who died last month left a half-million dollar bequest to the city of Fort Wayne’s parks department.

Dr. Suzanne Knoebel grew up in Fort Wayne and was a member of the Buckner family. The Indiana University faculty member died July 2 at the age of 87.

Fort Wayne Parks Director Al Moll tells The Journal Gazette (http://bit.ly/1uNMRIs ) he was aware of a pending gift from Knoebel’s estate but “had no idea it would be this significant.”

Moll says the $500,000 will go into the Park Foundation’s Buckner Family Endowment. He says the foundation might use the money to raise more money for the city’s more than 200-acre Buckner Park that was once a farm owned by the Buckner family.
