Garrett Will Be Tough In The Trenches In 2014

GARRETT, Ind. (WANE) – Change is the name of the game up in Garrett where the Railroaders are back in the NECC after leaving the conference in 2005.
The Railroaders come back to the conference after competing in the ACAC where they posted a 4-6 record last fall – Garrett’s first losing season since 2006.
Head coach Chris DePew is in his third season at his alma mater and points to his line – both offensive and defensive – as a reason for optimism in 2014.
“From an offensive and defensive perspective its a great place to start,” DePew says. “Having those guys back, a year better and a year healthier than they were makes a big difference.”
The Railroaders will likely start three seniors and two juniors on the offensive line with all five holding starting experience.
Running back Bryit Sumner returns for his senior season after rushing for 843 yards and nine touchdowns last fall. While quarterback Noah Follett has graduated sophomore Tanner Burns has impressed and will take the reigns of the Railroader offense.
Defensively, the Railroaders will rely on senior linebacker Bo Davis. Last season Davis was an all-state pick racking up 103 tackles and three interceptions.
Garrett will scrimmage Whitko on Friday. The Railroaders open the regular season August 22 at home against Prairie Heights.
