Bulldogs Looking To Repeat As NHC Champs

NEW HAVEN, Ind. (WANE) – After setting a school record with 11 wins, claiming the program’s first NHC championship, and winning a sixth sectional title the bar has been raised for the New Haven Bulldogs.
Coach Jim Rowland enters his 14th season at John Young Stadium with Vance Shearer returning at quarterback. Shearer threw for 2,006 yards and 23 touchdowns last year, though his favorite weapons have graduated. Jordan Hogue holds virtually every receiving record at New Haven and is a freshman at Ball State while running back Airiest Vazquez is also gone. Receivers Travis Crowe and Adam Hoffer are expected to have bigger roles in 2014. Sophomore Nishawn “Buddy” Jones is expected to see the majority of time all the running back position.
Defensively, the 6-foot-3, 235-pound J’Keveous Hampton will anchor the line along with 6-foot-6 junior Zach Watson. The Bulldogs gave up just 16 points per game last fall.
New Haven will scrimmage Angola at Young Stadium on Friday. The Bulldogs open the regular season August 22 at Heritage.
