FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) During construction on Lima Road, Fort Wayne City Utilities discovered a broken sewer pipe that needs to be replace. To save money and avoid having to close and tear up a completed road in the future, City Utilities has asked Indiana Department of Transportation to allow them to make the repair now.
Earlier this week, the Board of Public Works approved the emergency repair work to allow for a new pipe to be installed under Lima Road near Norfolk Avenue. The pipe installation is expected to be completed by the end of next week, at which time the Lima construction project will continue.
The pipe installation is funded by sewer utility funds. The cost of the replacement is lower because the road will not have to be repaved since it is already under construction.
