Police: Man threw bowling ball at girlfriend’s head

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Police said a woman was at a bowling alley for a family reunion when her boyfriend showed up at the alley drunk, and threw a beer can and a bowling ball at her. Police arrested Leonard Suggs,41, arrested and charged him with domestic battery and battery in the presence of a child.

Police were called to the bowling alley after 9 p.m. on Sunday, August 3 after receiving a report that a woman had been hit on the top of the head with a bowling ball.

According to the affidavit for probable cause, Suggs was harassing his girlfriend, Evelyn Garrett, at Thunderbowl on 6700 Lafayette St. Garrett continued to ignore Suggs but he became upset and threw a beer can at her while she was down by the bowling lanes and he was above the lanes in the walking area.

Police said after the beer can missed Garrett, Suggs picked up a bowling ball and threw it at Evelyn and struck her on the top of the head. Investigators said Garrett told them that Suggs then ran down and started hitting her and pulling her hair.

A second woman was struck by the bowling ball as well and told police she had witnessed Suggs attack Garrett. Several other people, including minors, witnessed the attack.

Garrett was treated at a hospital in Fort Wayne.

Suggs’ bail was set at $2,500.
