MIAMI COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) — A Miami County surgeon accused of plotting to murder his ex-wife and make it look like a suicide has bonded out of jail.

Forty-eight-year-old Gregory Konrath posted 10 percent of two bonds totaling $250,000 and surrendered his passport Monday at the Miami County Jail, The Kokomo Tribune reports.

Konrath, an orthopedic surgeon at Dukes Memorial Hospital, was arrested in July on a preliminary charge of attempted murder. Police say recordings secretly made by his live-in girlfriend revealed he plotted to shoot his ex-wife.

Police say the recordings indicate Konrath had already started to execute the murder plot, by buying a gun and practicing shooting at a firing range wearing gloves to obscure fingerprints. Konrath detailed that he had already picked a dumpster that he would throw away his clothes in after the murder.

Konrath’s girlfriend told police that he was trying to get her to be his alibi and tell police he was home with her at the time of the murder. Konrath says he is innocent.

A jury trial in the case is set for Feb. 2 of next year.
