FORT WAYNE, IN. (WANE) – Snider’s bid for another SAC championship came up short in 2013, but it didn’t stop the Panthers from winning a seventh straight sectional title a few weeks later. Now a senior lead team is looking to have its cake and eat it too.
“We tell the kids when they get here, you’re working towards winning a state championship, an SAC championship in your senior year,” says head coach Kurt Tippmann. “So, everything begins with them. We will go as our seniors lead.”
Tippmann, now in his sixth year as head coach, never seems to be in short supply of talented seniors and this Panthers team is no exception. Quartback Colton Painter returns for his final season after throwing for 1,400 yards and nine touchdowns as a junior. He’ll preside over an offense that returns an experienced offensive line, a 700-yard rusher in Neandre Billings and a crop of athletic receivers that should have the Panthers throwing the ball more than in recent memory.
Defensively, Snider is ever deeper. The Panthers return multiple starters at every spot in both the front seven and the secondary. The defensive backs will be lead by Toledo commit Jessie Bates, considered one of the best defensive players in the area. Up front, Matt Swarz will anchor a big front four that allowed just over 100 yards rushing per game last season.
Snider scrimmages Homestead on Friday, August 15th at Bowser Field. The Panthers open the regular season August 22nd against Bishop Luers at Spuller Stadium.
