FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A man who was declared dead after being taken to the hospital from a three-car crash did not die from injuries sustained in the crash.

According to the Allen County Coroner’s office, 89-year-old William Eversole suffered a significant medical event before his van crashed into two cars and a utility pole on Monday.

The accident happened Monday morning at the intersection of West Jefferson Boulevard and Olde Canal Place, near Lutheran Hospital.

Two vehicles were stopped at the intersection around 9 a.m. when Eversole’s van struck one of the vehicles and then collided into a utility pole. Police said the van hit the second car when it crashed into the pole.

No one else involved in the crash was injured.

Paramedics provided medical treatment to Eversole at the scene before taking him to a hospital in critical condition. He was declared dead shortly after arriving at the hospital. provides commenting on many stories to allow for constructive discussion.
