Former NICU patients reunite with hospital staff

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Lutheran Children’s Hospital celebrated its 25th Annual NICU Reunion Graduates and Caregivers. Former patients and their immediate families celebrated and reconnected with caregivers and other graduates Saturday.

The reunion allowed nurses, physicians and families to reunite and see the progress of children who were at one time in the NICU.

“It’s such a blessing to us to see how well parents in Fort Wayne, Indiana are doing with their children,” NICU nurse at Lutheran Hospital, Irene Wagley said. “These families have struggled through so many life and death issues and here they are, coming back, sharing with us ‘hey, I made it this far’, ‘we made it to the third birthday’, ‘we made it the fifth’, and we didn’t know if they were going to make it through the first month.”

The theme for this year was a roundup. The party included a mini petting zoo, moonwalk, kiddie games, door prizes, t-shirts, lunch and a cake. provides commenting on many stories to allow for constructive discussion.
