Kelly Announces Springmann’s Career Over

TONY SPRINGMANN

SOUTH BEND, IN. (WANE) – Former Bishop Dwenger standout Tony Springmann’s college football career is over. Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly made the announcement at his pre-training camp press conference on Friday afternoon.

The 6-foot-5, 300-pound defensive lineman missed the entire 2013 season with a torn ACL, before missing spring practices with an infection. Kelly says a lingering back issue is forcing Springmann to walk away from football.

Kelly added that the former Saint will stay involved with the Irish football program in some capacity.
