Downtown block party moves to Headwaters Park

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE)  The second block party presented by the organization ‘A Better Fort starts Friday at Headwaters Park on 333 South Clinton Street.  The party kicks off at 6 p.m. with music, drink specials, and door prizes people to enjoy.

The first 200 people get a $10 Pac Sun gift card, the first 500 get sunglasses, and the first 1000 get foam glow sticks.

‘A Better Fort’ started hosting the block parties downtown in 2012. The organization said the popularity quickly grew by the thousands. The first block party in July, #House4House, was more popular than anticipated, and ‘A Better Fort’ decided to move its location from The Landing to a larger venue at Headwaters Park for its August 1 party.

The block parties are part of the #BAALS concert series. Two block parties are in different parts of Fort Wayne’s downtown on two separate Fridays in the summer.

The title #BAALS was given to the two events because of its underlying and symbolic meaning. According to a release on the party:

In summary the objective is to take negative stereotypes and rhetoric, poke fun at them and embrace them, as something of the past and make it clear that this is a new day for Fort Wayne and to show the world that this city, in fact, has #BAALS.

#House4House, raised money for Mad Anthony’s Children’s Hope House. The event has raised over $10,000 for the local charity since it began.

Admission is $5, and children age 12 and under are free.  Tickets can be purchased at the door.

However, people can purchase a special Fast Pass ahead of time. Ticket holders can pass the line at the door and will be able to skip to the front of drink lines. Those tickets are $25.
