Gun-toting son scares off hammer wielding burglar

KOSCIUSKO COUNTY, Ind. (WANE)  A man is in jail after he allegedly burglarized a home located at 6008 Old State Road 15 in Leesburg Wednesday morning. Police arrested the Mack S. Stokes, 43, of Warsaw he fled the home after being confronted by a person with a gun according to police.

According to the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, the homeowner awoke around 10:15 a.m. after hearing a suspicious sound. As she was searching the home she found a broken window and a man police believe to be Stokes breaking into her home armed with a hammer.

The woman alerted her son who confronted Stokes his gun. Stokes took off to his car and tried to run over the son in order to get away.

Police were called and they caught up with Stokes who was traveling north on Old State Road 15. He was arrested and preliminary charged with felony burglary. Police also discovered the car he was driving was not his, and he did not have permission from the owner to use the car.

Stokes is being held on a $6,000 bond.
