FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE)- The 2014 State Wars United States Roller Hockey Championships are taking place at the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse in Fort Wayne from July 30-August 10, officials from Visit Fort Wayne announced Wednesday.

The 12-day championships -which started Wednesday morning- will bring in close to 270 teams and more than 10,000 visitors, generating an estimated 7,000 room nights and $1.6-$2 million in direct economic impact, officials said.

“This is the largest sporting event in Fort Wayne this year and our city is excited to welcome thousands of competitors, families and officials,” said Corey Ford, sports sales manager for Visit Fort Wayne. “This event will have a significant economic impact on our community, which will be felt by hotels, restaurants, restaurants and retail.”

The championships will feature more than 700 competitive in-line hockey games. Admission is free to the public and a full schedule of games can be found at http://www.statewarshockey.com.
